Converting Level-Trol controller to tranmitter

Hi there,

I have a 2500 series level-trol controller from Fisher.

I want to convert this controller to just a transmitter.

Can anybody help me? any link,reference,.. would be highly appreciated.

How about connecting a P to I on the pneumatic signal line of the 2500 controller, then wire back to your PLC, SCADA, etc?

Or, the more expensive way is to use a magnetic pick-up level float device, like those made by Magnetrol (no affiliation with the vendor)? All you need to do is to match the nozzle span of the fisher to the magnetic level transmitter.

If it is a model with a flanged top you can use insert a guided wave radar level transmitter from the top. Fisher used to sell an electronic transmitter that used the torque tube from the level trol. Don't bother with that path.

The 2500 comes in a caged (sometimes called bridled) and uncaged (single flange connection, the probe goes in and turns down 90 degrees) versions.

If you are using the uncaged version, replacement with the Magnetrol magnetic level float (sometimes also called "flippers") would not work these need 2 connections.

I still think the best solution is the pneumatic to 4-20 mA converter on the pneumatic signal line (that used to go to the valve), and wire that back to your control system/SCADA.

The 2500 model, caged, does have a flanged top. Having said that, I still have not seen a guided wave radar xmtr using the bridle for level control. I think cost wise, a replacement using the "flipper" with a magnetic pick-up/transmitter would be cheaper. But, my suggestion is just a P/I on the existing 2500 (cheapest and simplest).

The pneumatic box was the 2500 series. However the external displacer was in the 249/259 series connected via a torque tube to the 2500 series pneumatics. The 2500 is primitive but works with really bad air. Even if the flapper has worn the nozzle it still works well, just additional air consumption.

I have to clarify my question I believe:

I have a 2500 series Pneumatic level-trol controller from Fisher.

I want to convert this controller to just a Pneumatic transmitter with output signal usable for generating an alarm through a pressure switch and shutting down some pumps. So I do not need the deviation signal to go to control element, but I need the 3~15 psi signal correspondent to tank level.

You should be able to do that already with the 2500. It has a gap control function (on/off control).

For a 3-15 pneu output, it is simple. Just disable the reset mechanism if it is fitted with one. Then adjust the span to Zero the output (3 psi) at the minimum level, Full scale (15 psi) at maximum level and carramba! it's a transmitter.

The Masoneilan 12000 series liquid level controller has the exact same mechanism for proportional controller and transmitter, except the trans has a nice fine threaded vernier for span adjustment, where the Controller has a slide-rod with a clamp for the same function.
