Hello,

I am trying to convert a disc full of vendor files from Inventor to SolidWorks, but I am having trouble.

For some reason, I can not open any of the Inventor files in SolidWorks and then save them as part, assembly and drawing files.

What could be causing this issue? Are there any kind of file converters out there?

Thanks,
JF

What type of error do you have?

Try to "play" with options uder the "Optinos" button in the File->Open dialog while the .ipt or .iam filters selected.

It is telling me that it is an unsupported Inventor version and then it is showing an error file to check out which states:

Error: Unsupported Inventor Version.
INVENTOR-in did not complete successfully.
Context: Record ending on line number 1
OR one of its fields.

Thanks for checking this out.

What SolidWorks do you use? I think the version of the Inventor's file doesn't supported by the translater of this version of SW

Do you have the latest version of Inventor View installed?

I'm not wanting to sound too sarcastic but ... what part of "unsupported" don't you understand? The SolidWorks translators are not necessarily written for the very latest version of another program.

Version Information
The Inventor translator supports all Autodesk Inventor versions including Autodesk Inventor 11 and above.

To open Autodesk Inventor 11 or Inventor part (.ipt) or assembly files (.iam) in SolidWorks, you must have Inventor installed on the same system as SolidWorks. You can install Inventor View instead of Inventor. However, if Inventor is already installed, do not install Inventor View.

Sounds like from later release.
Download free Inventor Fusion from and open the ipt and/or iam files (out of luck on idw) and save as STEP format to open in SWx.
