I have a Solidworks 2004 model I need converted to 2000i in order to open it. Can someone please convert these for me?

Do you mean convert SWx 2004 to SWx 2000? If so can't be done.....SWx is not backwards compatible. Or do you me Pro/E 2000i? if so you will have to convert the SWx 2004 file to either a STeP or IGES but then you will have no feature history.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.

Good catch Heckler. I didn't think of Pro/E.

ACAD 2000i? Not sure how to do it. You can save it as an acis (.acis) file, but if you use the "acisin" command in ACAD, you get the following error: "Save file is from a later version of Acis".

smcadman,

When you save the file out of SW as an ACIS file, click on the options button in the save as dialog box. This allows you to specify the ACIS version for the translation.

Then there's the answer: save as acis version 1.6 (assuming he means ACAD 2000i)

It sounds to me like he has a few SW files and a seat of AutoCAD 2000i. If that is the case, 2000i is a 2D program and unless he has MDT5 as well translating the part files won't help. If the SW files are .drw What about having the source of the files do a save-as .dwg?

ACAD is not a 2D program, it's 3D. Many users just never learn how to use 3D. ACAD 2000i has Photo Real and Photo Raytrace rendering, and can rival Photoworks in quality. The setup isn't as easy though.

If it is ACAD 200i, he can save from SolidWorks drawing file as DWG, select options, change to older version of ACAD.

"I have a Solidworks 2004 model I need converted to 2000i"

You can't convert part and assembly models to .dwg, only drawing files.

Not to get off the subject but my 2000i opens as a 2D program unless I open it using MDT5 Powerpack. I can't say I miss using MDT/AutoCAD.

It would be helpful to have some clarification from brivera as to what he has and what he wants.

errr guys ... I think you will find that the OP is asking for someone to do the conversion for him. He has the SW04 model file but presumably not SW. He just needs it converted to a "???? 2000i" compatible format.

brivera ... see faq559-1177 for details of how to upload a file and list what 3D formats the "???? 2000i" can open/import.

[cheers]

I can't do it for him, only guide him. (job sensitivity).
Hopefully somewhere can.

CBL, gotcha. I thought he didn't know how to convert it.

lumenharold, here is a screenshot of ACAD 2000i.

You will notice all of the 3D buttons, such as Solids, Solids Editing, Surfaces, Shading, Rendering, etc. You just have to turn them on. I have MDT6 with Power Pack and it uses ACAD 2002. I do not recall which version of ACAD MDT5 uses.
