Hi,

Can anybody please explain whether it is mandatry for the electric motor jockey pump to have a controller of its own as per NFPA 20,

As I understand the jockey pumps are pressure maintaining pumps and in case auto starting is not mandated it is not necessary to install a dediacated controller for the same.

There is no NFPA 20 code requirement for listed controller, etc. etc. like the fire pump, but obviously the pump will need some kind of controller to turn on and off.

For example, in a combined potable water/fire protection system at a large facility, the potable water pumps are used instead of typical pressure maintenance (jockey) pumps. But the potable water pumps are controlled by a pressure switch or pressure transmitter and a PLC.
