control valve at top of elevator shaft....

I can't seem to remember or find where the requirement for a supervised control valve on the sprinkler feeding the top of an elevator shaft, the pit and the elevator machine room.
Is it an NFPA requirement (and where?) or an NBC requirement (and where?) for you canucks out there.

I think this may be a requirement of CSA B44 - Safety Code for Elevators. Not 100% sure though.
 
TSSA is usually the governing body for elevators and machine rooms. The local branch would probably have a tech who could tell you everything you need to know, as it can differ greatly from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.
