I am looking for a book where it tells me how to control a reciprocating gas compressor. I will be using a PLC.

I've never seen a book that really covers the whole topic. The control logic will have to be based on the level of importance, pressur at suction, volume, energy use, pressurre at discharge, type of avaiaable controls, RPM of driver, recycle vales, suction control valves, volume loaders and unloaders, pockets on cylinders, multiple stages, mechanical limits of pressures and rod loads, any thing else .....

Need to do a matrix and priority of the varibles ... Do you want to elaberate, need contract terms, fuel cost, efficiencies, variable pockets, all the details to start.

not much more to add to dcasto's suggestion, perhaps the equipment mfg and end use can be of further assistance to you.

good luck!

Control procedure and philosophy depend on process and machine control needs which varies for projects. Do you need any specific type of control system?

The company I work for use a PLC system to control the Recycle valve and RPM of a Recip to meet varying demand from the gas gathering system. From what I have seen there is no book out there on how to do it. It is a combination of extensive knowledge of the compressor itself and the programming and logic in the PLC. I would recommend looking for a company that packages recip compressors of the same nature and size as the one you wish to control. The Compressor manufacturers may or may not know that much about how to control the whole package. There is as much control in aux equipment like Control valves and driver speed as there is in volume pockets and auto unloaders.

I would also agree fully with Dcasto's Post.

Good luck

I bet these guys can help you

They specializing in controlling reciprocation compressors!

They are in Cambridge Ohio, Ariel's home is in Columbus Ohio, I would not doubt if the two are related, which would be a good thing for you.
Good Luck.

You should contact the OEM and he can guide you in appoprate direction
