Hi,
I am performing a contact analysis using MSC Marc 2010 and Patran 2010. During the analysis, as I look the .log file I can see a large number of messages “recycling increment due to separation”. As separation results in additional iterations (which leads to higher costs), I would like to know how can I better configure analysis parameter to avoid separation. Any idea?

Thank you

What tunable parameters do you have for the contact solution? Or,can you latch a contact algorithmically and then restart the model with the contact joined?

The parameters that I can control are the distance tolerance of the contact detection and the separation force/stress (that I think is more relevant, but I’m afraid of lose accuracy in the solution). Would you recomend any value?
Can other parameters, like time steps make any difference in the contact behavior?
Thank you!

No, I don't have any ideas, but other MSC software includes tips for optimising contact, have you checked the documentation, help files, website and asked MSC?

Cheers

Yes, I'm taking a look in some tutorials and other files...

Tks
