Consolidation Cv determination

Hi,

For consolidation testing, are the T50 and T90 constants both usable when calculating Cv or is one result more accepted than the other. I usually see the results expressed using T90 (i.e., Cv(90))

Thanks for the referal, however, we have plenty of soil investigation books in the office. If however you believe this reference is superior for practical purposes then let me know so we can consider purchasing it.

I am curious as to why you refered it for this specific question. I haven't the time to look through the on-line version which is also missing pages but will get to it eventually. Currently we worked around the problem but I am curious as to whether we handled it in the best possible way.

I just provided a google reference that gave insight on determination of Cv. If you have references in your office, I'm not too sure what else I can provide.

Remember that T50 and T90 has constant values of 0.196 and 0.848 respectivly.From the casagrande method you determine t50 and from the taylor method one determine the t90 value. Than you still need the drainage distance and Cv can be then determine. I will say that both ways is equally accarate.

In my opinion, t50 values determined from log fitting methods , are better for estimating cv values. The time is on log scale and more time related data is necessary for this method that the rooot fitting method used to determining t90 values

Thank you both for your answers. It's been a couple months since I have looked at the literature, but if I recall correctly, the ASTM used primarily the t50 and the t90 as an alternative. Your answer adds confindence for the next time we do this testing.
