Ladies & Gents,

I have been an EIT for about 2-years now and have yet to find a good connection design resource, which includes good design examples and procedures. Would any of you recommend any source in particular. I am interested in the design of moment connections, simple brace to column/beam connections (using the Uniform Force Method), both column and beam splice connections, etc.. Any direction in this regard would be greatly appreciated. It's frustrating that many of these frequently encountered topics are not really addressed within most undergraduate curriculums. Guess that may be the value of graduate school?

I assume that you are asking about steel.....

Here are a couple of good resources......

Manual of Steel Construction, Volume II Connections, AISC

Engineering for Steel Construction, AISC

Design of Welded Structures, Omar Blodgett

I used Segui's 3rd Edition of LRFD Steel Design, but it doesn't address very many advanced topics. I think he probably has reeleased at least one more edition, which probably addresses the Unified Code. Nonetheless, Segui's books seem to be geared towards an introductory course. Thank you for your comment!

Proposed modification to AISCs Code of Standard Practice Section 3.1.2
Charles J. Carter, P.E., S.E.

A joint task group has developed a proposed modification to Section 3.1.2 of the American Institute of Steel Construction’s (AISC) Code of Standard Practice. This proposal seeks to address, in a direct and workable manner, the practice of delegating connection design work to a licensed engineer working for the steel fabricator. Any and all comments are welcome. more

If you have the AISC 13th Edition, the companion CD has quite a few design examples. There are moment connections, brace connections, not to mention many other analysis & design examples. Has been pretty helpful for me so far.

If you are looking for wood, try the "AITC Timber Construction Manual" (American Institute of Timber Construction).

For steel, you should also look at

Handbook of Structural Steel Connection Design and Details
by Tamboli (ISBN 0070614970)

and

the AISC Hollow Structural Sections Connections Manual

Both are excellent resources, with lots of worked out example problems.

My company already has the desconbrace program, but they won't invest in the desconwin program; I'd really like to have it though. I believe desconwin designs moment connections, splice connections and pretty much everything that desconbrace doesn't. Too bad they didn't just create one program that includes both of these.
