Configurations to handle revisions? 2

We're constantly revising parts, and with the exception of a P.I.A. backup system, the model for the previous revision is gone by being modified.

Does anyone know if it's possible to make a new configuration, then set that one to active and make the changes. If it can, will the 'default' configuration be preserved in the pre-modification state??

Other suggestions?
we have PDM works...but we can't figure it out and our retailer/training people aren't helpful.

I suggest learning PDMWorks, it's really not that hard. Creating configs for separate revs will cause you headaches after a while. Do a search here, lots of threads on PDMW. Whe can help you get going.

Ditto. Don't use configs for revisions. The first model that comes along that has several configs for the current rev will blow that system up.

Well, I set to task on learning PDMWorks yesterday, and that lasted a total of 15 minutes. I can't figure out how to get the vault server started on local machine. and the tutorial said something about some included litterature, which wasn't included.

*growl* if solidworks weren't such a good program I'd....use.....well.....pencil and paper I guess.

Will the service not start? I believe there is another way to run the vault without it being a service. Look in the PDMWorks folder, there a Vault exe file somewhere. That's not the exact name but it should be apparent.

Also check the Solidworks site, there's PDMWorks info there.

When you went for training you should have recieved a book on PDMWorks. Go back through the book each leasson at a time and a lot of your questions should be answered. If you have not been to training for PDMWorks I would go. PDMWorks is not a real difficult program to learn but it helps a lot to do examples.

The vault should start automaticly.

We didn't have any training, or even any offer of getting us started, and Doubt they even offer training or know themselves how to use it. I'm gonna see if I can find some 'elsewhere'

Install PDMW server onto the server and vault on same server, but different folder than PDMW. On PC, go to Start/programs/PDMWorks/PDM admin.
Open it and login with PDMWadmin as name & password with the name as the server it is located. Create user names, passwords, projects, etc. When all setups are complete, close, then login to PDMW on your pc. Read help.
