I have a model with two configurations. The only difference between the two is one is scaled up larger than the other. (The last feature is scale which is suppressed on the default configuration) When I edit a sketch in the default model, the change does not appear on the configuration. Isnt it supposed to? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

You may have to activate the other configurations for the changes to update. There was a macro on here that would rebuild all configurations, but I don't recall what it was called.

Depends on how the configurations are set up (derived or not), and also how you change the dimension. In the dialog where you change the dimension there is a dropdown box that asks you which configs you want to change. You have to make sure that says "All Configurations".

I simply double-clicked on the feature, changed the dim on the screen, and then rebuilt the model. But what I was needing to know is: When the default is changed, will the configuration change with it?

The "Default" configuration has no significance. Once you've created another configuration you can delete the "Default" configuration. Default doesn't mean "Every configuration is like this by default", it's just the name for the first configuration of a new part or assembly when created in SW. When you created the configuration did you create a derived configuration or another main configuration?

Also, when you changed the dimension there was a dropdown box below the dimension box that specifies which configuration(s) you want to change that dimension in. All configurations will only be updated if "All Configurations" is selected in that dropdown box.

I honestly dont know which i created. Perhaps this is the problem. I will have to read more about configurations.

handle: I see now. I examined the properties of the dimesnions and one of the dimensions (the one I was modifying) had been changed to "this configuration". But I have never been to that dialogue to change it before. Is there another way it could have been changed? Finding this error in my model is making me very nervous. I have been using configurations for months now and didnt know this could happen.

You should read up on, & use, Design Tables. They are easy to set up & will eliminate the "problem" caused by the "All Configs, This Config, Specify Config" options.
