Good day!

How do you compute for required height of condenser leg pipe if the vacuum to be maintained is 5 in Hg?

Thank you for your reply.

The static pressure exerted by a column of liquid is calculated by
Pressure = liquid density x acceleration of gravity x height

This pressure must match the difference (in absolute terms) between the atmospheric pressure and the condenser pressure
i.e. (Atm Press - Condenser Press) = liquid density x acceleration of gravity x height

This allows you to calculate the height of the liquid column, but you should include a bit of a safety factor for variations in the condenser pressure. To be really safe, assume condenser pressure is zero absolute and then leave 500 mm or so between the top of the liquid column and the condenser nozzle.
