Hey Eng-Tips,

I am looking for information about the state of the art in unreinforced concrete using additives such as steel/glass/polymer fibers.

Specifically, I am looking for a shotcrete with the highest modulus of rupture that I can get my hands on. Unfortunately, in my situation, steel reinforcing bars are not an option.

Fiber enhancement will increase the modulus of rupture, particularly if you use steel or stainless steel fibers. For shotcrete, I would suggest Mitchell Fibercon's short, ductile steel fibers. Glass and Poly fibers are not as effective in shotcrete and the long steel fibers that are great for cast-in-place concrete don't work will with shotcrete.

Good luck.

Here is a link to their website:

ps....I do not have any interest in Mitchell Fibercon and offer these comments only from my experience and past involvement on ACI Committee 543 for fiber enhanced concrete.
