I have a concrete roof deck that I need to check for its capacity to support a swing stage. The load will translate to a point load at two points along the concrete roof deck. What is the area I can distrubute this load over? Is there any way to better distrubute the load over a larger area to the concrete deck? Maybe plywwod at the point of contact of the swing stage base to the deck?

Is it a concrete slab on a metal deck or a concrete roof slab with no decking?

I would think that a metal bearing plate would be better than wood as the wood could deflect too much as it tries to spread out the load.

The steel plate, if thick enough will spread out the load more efficiently, and stiffeners can be used to lessen the thickness of the plate if needed.

You can spread the load as far as the reinforcing will allow. Pick a width and convert your point load to a uniform load across this width (half of the uniform load on each side of the point load). This uniform load will cause the slab to bend around the point load, causing a bending moment. Check that the slab reinforcing is adequate for this moment.

Also, don't forget to check shear (one way and two way) and deflection.

Are you trying to distribute the load from the anchor points? I suggest you try something like msquared48 suggested. Be careful with the anchors as well, if you are anchoring into the tension zone of the slab then you will need to assume that the concrete is cracked.
