Hello,

Can someone tell me how can i calculate if a material with single span can support a 2,000 pound (8.90 kN) concentrated load
applied over a 20 square inch (0.0129 m2) area.

Thank you

determine your support conditions
determine your material properties (A, I, S, E, etc.)
determine bending moment and shear.
determine required A, I, S.
compare to the materials properties

For all practical purposes, 20 square inch (about 4.5" x 4.5" area) shall be treated as a single point load on a member.

I gather the drift of the question is related to comparing the uniformly distributed dead plus live load versus uniform dead plus 2000 pound point live load at midspan...

My response is related to my field of structural engineering but if the questions is related to "Materials" field, please ignore everything I said...

Cheers
