a very large number of centrifugal compressor services seem to do well with a tandem arangement usually with an intermediate labyrinth.

could you indicate from FIELD experience, where have you found a double seal to be of more value please give some specific scenarios/reasoning

Common in low pressure applications (wet gas, cocker gas for refineries), where no emissions of process gas through vent are tolerated (e.g. H2S content).
