Hi all forum, I am modelling a composite structure (I beam + concrete slab), i used shell elements for both materials. I applied 4 nos points load (100kN each) on the beam, but there was no respond in my result, i not sure what went wrong, can anyone help? attched my *.inp file.

I believe that the only connection between the slab and beam is contact. You have no force to push the slab on the beam so it is simply flying away. If you include gravity and stabilization you might get what you want. Is the slab attached in any way? You might want to look at a tied constraint. Hope this helps.

Hi Rob,

how to include gravity and stabilization as you suggested? sorry, as i am new on abaqus and this is my first model.
the slab is sitting on the beam and I applied the point loads on the beam's nodes instead of slab's nodes.

For gravity in the CAE User's Manual 16.8.1. Make sure you have the density defined.

For stabilization in the CAE User's Manual 15.13.3. Check your energies at the end of the analysis to make sure that the energy associated with stabilization is small relative to the rest of the energy.

Hope this helps.
