Dear friends,

I am dealing with a Dynamic Explicit simulation in ABAQUS. Maybe, somebody has any comparison between calculation time in Windows and Linux? I am using the same PC for both simulations.

Would be Linux faster in principle for the same similar conditions?!!

thanks in advance,
Hassan

Usually for clusters Linux is used, but that's probably not because simulations run much faster but because the terminal type input eases multiple user interactions with the machines.

To answer your question, the OS should not have any effect on the simulation times unless there are background processes taking up CPU time.

Intuitively suggesting, if the hardware is the same, then there should not be any difference. However, time and again, I have - heard - folks say that jobs run more efficiently on Linux. The downside is that Linux administration costs are higher than Windows.

You could take a Dynamic Explicit problem from the documentation, run it in both windows and linux and do your own benchmark?

thanks a lot for your support,

I did several Explicit simulations with the same model and using the same PC; and Linux was around 3% slower. !!!

I expected Linux should be faster instead, but it was slower!!! That is why, I wanted to shear and get some ideas if anybody has previous experiences.

Greetings
