Communication problem with RED670 relay 1

Today I tried to connect with RED670 line differential protection - my first experience with 670-series relays of ABB.
I used crossed Ethernet cable, set-up on LAN-connection the IP-address and subnet mask as read them from relay display, but connection was unsuccessful. Actually network connection with relay was partially (I suppose just hardware connection) established, but the process "hanged" with message "Acquiring network address".
I wonder if there are some other specific setting necessary, which are missing in the "Commissioning manual"?

Sounds like you may need to set an IP address somehow, or make sure you have a DHCP server available to provide the IP address.

Some of these devices assume an initial IP address in a specific subnet, such as 192.168.0.xxx or 192.168.1.xxx.

I don't have any specifics on this relay, but I'd check the documentation for the ABB software that is supposed to be communicating with it.

I have always just called up ABB tech support when I had problems with their relays. They are very helpful.

Hi Lz5pl.
Are you try make simple ping of RED670 IP address.
Maybe your laptop have a dynamic IP, better used fixed.
Don't forgot in the 670 you have two IP address, one for the front port and one for the rear.
pwrengrds, for my pinion up to 05/01/2009 we have forgot about tech support :).
Best Regards.

HAPPY A NEW YEAR TO YOU

Thank you, guys, I will check everything from your posts.
Of course calling ABB support will be the best solution, but I suppose they are mostly on Christmas holidays (naturally) now . Actually all the staff of our company is also out of the office, so I try to play with our new toys in that calm period, when nobody is around to ask me some boring questions like "That offer is urgently needed!", etc. :)
Anyway I should solve the problem in next 20 days before to sent relays to the panel manufacturer.
