we are designing a building inside an existing building.
We need to cut some exising columns which will be in the way of new building. So we have to support the exsiting column (between the existing roof and new roof) by a steel beams (which will be in the roof of new building and supported by new columns).
But we also want to seperate the lateral movement of the two buildings due to seismic loads.
The existing column is 9x11 timber and the beam will be W shap steel beam. So we want a detail to support the column on top of the beam vertically but allow the column to move laterally (both directions). A wheel type of connection?
Any suggestions. Thanks.
