Was not sure where to post this query...
We have recently re-insulated a coil out of a welding unit. (Insualtion paper b/n wire and laminations) Only the coil/laminatins were given to us. The coil then returned burnt out. It is cross sectional copper (6x4mm) wire. My two queries are 1) What is the coils purpose in the circuit of the welder? 2) Is there any considerations that need to be taken when rewinding coil.
I have been told it is an inductance coil, which alternates the output arc of the welder. Good and fine, although still vauge to me.
As far as burning out, i have my suspiscions, as the customer re-welded the bottom plate back onto the laminations, and have a feeling this had something to do with the coil shorting and burning out.

cuky,

Enjoyed that project immensley. The triac/thyristor control will present some problems for them. Hope to read more about that.
