There is an existing 20 Ton unit, and the open air inlet is about 10 feet away from a forced air exhaust vent. The vent is just to release hot air from misc rooms, electrical, storage, etc. We are replacing it with a unit (same size) that will have the inlet about 9.5 to 10 feet away from exhaust vent. Code requires 10 feet from any exhaust vent. Is it a wise idea to risk it? It might come back with a change order when the building inspector comes out. What do you think is the best (cheap too) for this situation.

Install a 30 degree offset extension on the inlet so thatyou have the correct distance

Or move the bugger.

Codes are MINIMUM requirements....if the code wants 10 feet, 15 feet is better.
