Hello all-

I am going through a pump selection process for a waterbath vaporizer of LPG. The waterbath is heated by flue gases from propane combustion (flame temp. in air of ~3000F, flue gases leaving exhaust at ~750F) passing through metal piping in the waterbath, with liquid LPG to be vaporized flowing through heat exhanger tubes situated above the flue gas piping in the waterbath. Burner inputs to the system range from 10^5 BTU/hr to 10^7 BTU/hr.

I am not quire sure what resources to look to for determining how much circulation flow is needed to bring temperature stratification in the waterbath to an "acceptable" level. I'm not looking for specifics, obviously, just trying to find resources to help me along. Obviously there will be free flow due to the temperature/density gradient, but I am trying to find a resource to help with calculating that free flow and also to find how much forced flow by a circulation pump would be needed to augment the free flow. Thank you!

See "Process Heat Transfer" by Kern. Lots of good information there.

That is one serious book. I'll have to make a trip to the library at my alma mater. Thanks!
