Close all files 1

I have been using Wildfire for only a couple of days. Is there a way to close all files at once instead of having to close them one at a time?

Mathew is right. If you must close 10+ windows, is faster to exit ProE then load it back.

If you are running Windows, hold the Control key and click all the windows (icons at the bottom) that you want to close. Then right click and Close.

telecom guy... That's something I never thought of! I often open many drawings to plot for the shop, and it's time consuming to open each one and close it. I do what Hora said, and exit Pro-E if I don't have any files I want to keep open. Often though, I have a large assembly open that takes long enough to load, that I don't want to close it and reopen it.
Pro/E needs to jump in like everyone else and implement more standard windows functions... like being able to alt-tab between files, among other things.
I'm giving telecom guy a star for his tip.

I think reluctance to adapt to Windows (lowest common denominator?) interfacing and conventions might be a good thing.

Don't forget to flush closed objects from session.

Ironiclally, I accidently tried the alt-tabs thing today, and it worked! I've tried it before and it didn't. They must've listened to my (and others most likely) enhancement request a while back and snuck it in there on me.

I think any windows-based software ought to utilize the basic commands such as file-save (ctrl-s), open, etc... I don't think its adapting to windows so much as making it easier on your users who use other windows programs who share much of the same interface. I hardly thinkg Windows is the "lowest common denominator" by any means. If it wasn't for windows, we'd all still be typing in DOS codes.

Well, I just had to open a bunch of files to make pdf's, and tried to close all but the main assembly file. I've seen where it would list the files across the bottom of the screen, but in this case it listed one tab with "12xtop" indicating how many files were open. I tried a couple different hings by right-clicking on the tab, but could either close them all at once, or individually.

So, I know the behavior you are talking about but I can't seem to make my system do that right now. It just keeps shrinking the icons instead of consolidating them under one icon. There may be a windows setting somewhere that controls this. I'll keep my eye out for another solution.

The menu bar in XP can be re-sized to allow for more icons to appear on it. That might allow for the windows to cascade rather that be lumped together.

The quickest way to close a bunch of windows...?

Add a close window button (Customize Screen, Commands, Window) to a toolbar. Clicks are buffered so just click the snot out of it. If you had something open (large assy) that you don't want to re-load, Open, In Session. Flush objects from session.

Single key mapkey. Same as above applies.

Either way is, I believe, faster than anything I've seen so far.

(Wonder if a J-Link close_all_windows function is possible?

You can turn off the grouping of similar windows under one task bar button by right clicking on the task bar, selecting properties and unclicking the 'Group Similar Taskbar Buttons' option. Every window will get a seperate button once this is done.
