CLASS 300 VS CLASS 150

i am Running out of 12" swing check valve class 150 and i want substitute it by 12" swing check valve class 300.
with same standard design and material. is it possible?

IT IS POSSIBLE INTERCHANGE THE VALVE, THE DIFFERENCE IS GOING TO BE THAT CLASS 300 RESIST MORE PRESSURE AND IS MORE ROBUST.
THE WAY THAT IT MUST BE IS THE FOLLOWING
ACCORDING TO THE ENGENIEERING. DESING CONDITIONS, DESING PRESSURE, ETC. THE PRODUCT YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE IN YOUR PIPING.

My answer:
No! You cannot just swap-out Class 150 Flanged Swing Check Valves for Class 300 Flanged Swing Check Valves. They are dimensionally different. You will also need to change the existing Class 150 Flanges on both sides of the existing Valve. They do not currently match the new Class 300 Valve
Differences between Class 150 and Class 300:
– The Flange outside diameters are different
– The Bolt circle diameters are different
– The Face to face dimensions are not the same, Class 150 F-to-F is = 27.5 inches vs. Class 300 F-to-F is = 28.0 inches

To use Class 300 Ck Valves you would need to remove the existing Class 150 Flanges from both sides of the existing situation and replace them with Class 300.

Not being able to see a sketch or a picture I do not know what else will need to be changed.

NO! That catalog does have an "adapter" BUT it for the low pressures and low temperatures of water service in ductile iron!
Class 150 and Class 300 fittings are rated for saturated steam pressures and temperatures at those two pressure ratings - though they are used in other applications as well.

I do not know if the adaptors are suitable for the OP's service (reason I used the conditional "may"). While I didn't happen to see the intended service mentioned, the first footnote of the cited page indicates the adaptors are available machined from ASTM A36 steel from the AMERICAN Ductile Iron Pipe Division.

Did anyone think to ask (before throwing hand grenades) that he may be running new piping and may be installing Class 300 flanges to suit the check valves ?

Is it possible? Yes

Is it a good idea - no.

Why? It's far too easy for someone long after you've disappeared to think the line in question is actually higher rating than it is due to these class 300 valves and flanges.
