Hi,
In order to define Flange thkness and bolting using Appendix Y ( ASME VIII Div 1), i have ito determine Wm1 first ( Wm1 : minimum required bolt load for the operating conditions).
The problem is that I 'm not sure of the approach that I made, this is what I did
Wm1= H+HC+HG (Y-4 (a.4))
There is no probmel with HC but to determine HG I have to use appendix 2, as I guess, wich give us HG= W-H
Then , since the definition of HG in appendix Y is “Gasket load due to seating pressure, plus axial force generated by self-sealing of gasket” so I considered W as the flange design bolt load for gasket seating
Another time , I have to use appendix 2 , since the formula of flange esign bolt load for gasket seating is not giving in appendix Y ,
W= (Am+Ab)*Sa/2 (Appendix 2 , eq 4)
Finally I have this equation
Wm1= HC+W = Wm1= HC +(Am+Ab)*Sa/2
Is it true what I did ??
