Hi,

How the best simulate clamp force (the preload) in 2D axisymmetrical bolted joint model???
I enclose link with screen to better understanding the problem.

Thanks

You can use pretension elements, contact offset, or thermal stress to preload the bolt in this case. I prefer contact offsets. Use whichever is easiest for you.

Hi,
If the region of interest is the joint members, then donot include the bolt threads. Just model the bolt as a solid member.

Then as mentioned by stringmaker, create the bolt pretension elements and apply the bolt preload in load step and the operatin loads in load step 2.

For reference, you can refer the following weblink..

Also there is an example problem in Ansys help for 3D bolt simulation...
