Cladding BOND STRENGTH

Hello Friends

We have a specification that calls for a BOND STRENGTH in cladded (2-14 Cr + SS347) plate. The clause states that the "Stainless Steel Bond Strength shall be at the upper yield strength at the low end, and approaching the UTS at the high end"

Now i am feeling confused, since as per SA264, bond strength is a bend test / while shear bond strength is an objective loading test, but tha value as per SA264 is 140 MPa.

shall i consider the above stated clause as the range of shear strength test only, and while most SS plates have min. specified yield strength as one min. value, and not a range, in that case again the clause seem difficult to be interpreted.

any help/clarity will be appreciated.

SJmetallurgist, "...upper yield strength..."? "...approaching the UTS..."?

I'd say you need the client to state what, exactly, these weasel words are intended to mean.

Or else you state the bond meets SA-264. Period.

You need to ask.
What if the yield strength of your clad came in at the spec min. for the SS. What value would they expect then?
The reason that clad is tested in bend and shear is that very few cases have a geometry that allows other testing modes.
How was this clad?
