Civil Engineer graduate --> What's next? 1

Hello,
I am a fresh graduate (B.Eng - Civil). Now I would like to know what are the things I need to know to be a Professional Engineer (P.E)?
How are we assessed anyway cos the examiners may have different area of expertises?
Quite confused anyway .... what's next after graduation besides finding a work in the construction industry?

You will have to contact the State Board in the state you have ajob to see what they require.

I have a PE licence in Texas. To be licenced there are two exams you must pass: EIT exam and PE exam. In Texas you need to have at least 4 years working experience before you can take PE exam.

Be careful about going to work in the construction industry. Many state boards assume that work for a construction contractor is NOT "satisfactory" engineering experience unless you can prove otherwise.

I recommend that you take the EIT (Engineering FUndamentals) exam ASAP. Most states require it as a precursor to the P.E., and it covers a lot of stuff that you learn in school but may not be using too much in practice. FOr example, as a civil I've not used thermodynamics, but it is on the test.

So take the EIT, work in the field under supervision of licensed engineers, and in a few years (check w/your state) you should be able to take the PE exam.

Sorry for emailing so late. Indeed, I am not in the US. I didn't know that there lots of americans in his site. I am not keen in working in the construction industry actually. I am more inclined to work in the transportation line but there is no work prospect here in Singapore. There is one govt agency only and they are not recruiting.
Thanks for your advice though. I am still looking for jobs since three months but the civil engineering industry is not good at all for the moment. I am consider switching to other type of jobs.
