I am checking a .003" circular runout with a .0005" dial indicator. Is this sufficient measurement resolution? Or, is .0001" preferred?

General rule of thumb is 10 to 1, I.E.: if tolerance is .01, need to check with instrument capable of .001 or less.
You have .003, 10 to 1 would be .0003, so, go with the .0001

Thanks. Also, do you have any guidance on gage error in this application? Is there a rule of thumb?
