According to PORTLAND CEMENT ASSOCIATION0-CIRCULAR CONCRETE TANKS PAGE 4 - CONSTRUCTION JOINTS HAS TO BE AT THE MAX DISTANCE OF 60 FEET IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE SHRINKAGE CRACKS.
MY QUESTION IS - IS IT BETTER TO FORM THE JOINTS VERTICAL OR HORIZONTAL IN THE CIRCULAR WALL OF THE TANK.MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT WHEN THE DIAMETER OF THE TANK IS MORE THAN 6 METERS(THE PERIMETER IS AROUND 20 METERS/60 FEET THEN THE JPINTS HAS TO BE VERTICAL.I NEED SOME ADVISE CONCRENING THIS SUBJECT. IAM IN A PROCESS OF DESIGNING A CIRCULAR TANK - 30 METER DIAMETER AND 6 METERS HIGH.

The joints are to be vertical. The more the better. The contractor will probably use a commercial form such as Simmons, resulting in a polygon shape. The spacing will assist the contractor in scheduling his pours.
