Hello there,

Does anyone know a good resource for the design of a round concrete beam? I actaully have a laterally loaded concrete pile and am going to model it as a concrete beam with a point load. The prelim reinforcement is one row of 20M rebar running along the perimeter of the beam in a circle.

Would I have to find the centroid of the tension reinforcement and use that as my moment arm? Does anyone know of any examples of this for my review?

Thanks!

I don't have any examples, but I would just use a column software to generate a P-M curve. You could do it by hand, but that takes longer. Get the P-M curve and just pull off the Moment with no axial load.

I currently don't have any column software. I was thinking about creating an interaction diagram from hand as well, but do you know any column software that is available for free?

I don't know any that is available for free, but you can probably get a free trial download of something like Enercalc, which should have a column module.

I found some software, but i think i will confrim the diagram with hand calcs. thanks for your help though!
