Hi All,
As a complete novice to the world of chrome plating, I thought I might pick some of the minds here.
We have an application of sliding surfaces, what we are thinking is chroming one surface and securing plastic (GSM or similar) to the other. The slider is a channel travelling within a channel, the inner one being smaller etc.
For the conditions we don't really want to use a lubricant. The plastic is disulphide impregnated.
Speeds aren't great, around 0.75m/min and the force on surfaces equate to about 12MPa.
Are there any guidlines on longevity of the chrome in terms wear?
Does this seem a reasonable solution, is there anything I should consider also?
I doubt Tolerance is will be an issue or surface roughness, the fit between the channels is not tight and the plastic will hopefully polish up after a few cylces.
There should not be any point impact loads.
