Hello All,
I am looking at an Elevated Temperature Tank (Annex M) and was wondering if API 650 12th Edition has any restrictions with regards to which steel grades can be used for the tank floor, shell and roof plates.
I.e. For tanks operating at elevated temperatures can you use any of the material specifications listed in Table 4.4a and 4.4b provided the applicable reduction factors of Table M-1a and M-1b are used?
The reason why I ask is that in the European Tank Code ( EN 14015 ) there are restrictions to what steel can be used for elevated temperature tanks. This particular code requires the use of pressure vessel steels with high operating temperatures only.
With API 650 can i use a standard Group 1 steel in Table 4.4 such as A283 gr C or should I be considering something like ASTM A516-60?
I would appreciate any of your comments or thoughts on this.
