Anyone experience with type Q195, Q235 and 20 in square and round tube? or ST12 for flat stock? I'm curious about yield strengths...

We use Q235A plates, and the info I have for it is 240 MPa yield strength. Tensile is 380 MPa.

I have the strength numbers, too. Q195 and Q235 are 195 and 235MPa yields. 20 (>245MPa yield)is supposed to be comparable to 1020 (350MPa yield), and is used in seamless tubing. Q235 will work harden rather than bend, and is ng for shaping tubes. For the chinese steels I have information on, their yield numbers are low compared to simpler US carbon steels. Are the numbers accurate? Are there qualities of strength that are not in the numbers? (I am no metalurgist) Anyone able to shed a bit of light here? thanks, all.

Felows,

After a post I've read in this forum about chinese plates and pipes, also, flanges and valves. I did never use it again ...

By the way, valves I still tried but what a trouble I get to myself!

Luiz, We are thinking about Chinese valves for a very sizeable program - - can you say what your troubles were - - you might save us real headaches .

Not directly on topic but:

We've had some trouble with Chinese nodular iron castings at my company. Specifically, issues with difficult machining (short tool life) of those castings. In addition, first article samples were produced in one Chinese foundry then full scale production was shifted to a different factory without our knowledge or approval. This particular incident was with parts sourced directly from Chinese companies.

Some resourcing to China has worked well and some has not. Be careful. Typically what has worked better is if we source from a middle man who deals with China directly and assumes some of the risk and also carries inventory here in this country (USA).

My advice is to proceed very cautiously with Chinese sources. Our company was terribly disrupted because of acetal material irregularities from China.
