Hi everyone, i'm trying to find an equivalent to 55SiCrA steel. I dont know much about it, i belive its made in Beijing by Baosteel.

Is this ultra high end like micro alloy SRS60? or is it normal like 9259? hmm...

Any help appreciated..

The chemical composition is closer to 9254 than 9259. It most certainly is not equivalent to the proprietary high strength grades like SRS60, UHS1800, etc. Baosteel frequently commandeers an obsolete designation (in this case 55SiCr7 is a former German DIN grade) and uses it as their proprietary grade. ISO 683-14 uses the designation 56SiCr7 for a similar spring steel grade.

tvp, thanks very much. i contacted the baosteel rep.. nothing yet.

what is the 7 at the end of 55SiCr7? and in this case, what is the A? just curious.. do the Chinese mills have the equivalents of the very high end steels like UHS1800?

Thanks again, Jeff

The 7 at the end of 55SiCr7 is an indication of the concentration of the major alloying element. The DIN/EN system uses a different multiplication factor for the various elements to indicate the nominal alloy content. I have no idea what the A means. I am not aware of any Chinese mills licensing the latest generation steels from Kobe, etc. They certainly have not independently designed, tested and manufactured steels that are competitive with the latest generation spring grades from Kobe, etc.
