Listened to him, he doesn't play jazz but is a formidable performer and composer, very pleasant solo piano, with or without classical slant, very good harmonies, eclectic personality, a Canadian musician who hasn't been very much appreciated in his own country.
BigH, that's not big deal, even in Italy often I feel like Italians don't appreciate much except for soccer players. And in the musical field just their Italian pet singers.
Getting back to the canuck pianists, you know well the jazz pianists like oscar Peterson and Renee Rosnes I wonder though if you know one absolute monster of a classical pianist, Marc Andrè Hamelin (from Montreal if I'm not wrong).
Not heard of him . . . but we also have the jazz pianist Bernie Senensky (or something like that) - I heard him at George's Spaghetti House (now defunct - but for many many years a dinner place with very good jazz groups playing - also heard Moe Koffman). Bernie did a few recordings for a Dutch label years ago . . . which doesn't seem to be on the disography noted in the link below.
Excellent pianist, he has lots of youtube videos, some of'em in Toronto's clubs, very good concert with Charlie McPherson at the alto sax, I'm enjoying that (sorry bigH that you can't watch them, I'm not trying to unnerve you on purpose, I swear!)
