Does anyone have an equation that will calculate the required volume for a chilled water buffer vessel?

I use a 'rule of thumb' of 3 litres of fluid per kW of nett cooling, but I am after an equation that takes other variables into account. Such as number of chiller starts per hour, flow rates, desired temperature fluctuation.......

Thanks for your help.

3 litres/kW cooling seems a bit low to me. My experience is more like 7 litres/kW.

Brian,

With Carrier chillers, you can use as little as 2.5 - 3.0 litres / kW for an air conditioning application. If you need tight temperature control (such as a process application), then 7.0 - 8.0 litres / kW is my reccomendation.

Best regards,
