If I vent ammonia at it´s gaseous state inside a water tank , what reactions, or elements becomes from it.??

I´m a Refrigeration mechanic , and since the start of the amonnia refrigetarion is working , every body do it with no problem.

But now I need to tell my customer what will be happen by this method.

Thanks in advance

Are you venting into the water or into the vapor space?

You basically create a aqueoua ammonia solution that get stronger until the water is saturated. Any impurities in the water could be converted to something else, most likey a salt.

Be careful bubbling ammonia through water. Under some conditions it is possible for water to get sucked-up the tube and contaminate your system.

the product is ammonia hydroxide. NH3 + H2O = NH4OH

if it is slow and the heat can be given up to the ambient atmosphere, you will reach equilibrium at about 30% weight.

the hardness impurities (e.g., calcium carbonates) in the water will precipate out due to the elevated pH.

and if you open the vent into a barrel and forget and then dump water into the barrel, it will likely collapse because the water will absorb the ammonia vapor quickly.
