Charlie Mingus, Don Pullen and the devil

Devil's blues is a peculiar performance from the Mingus quintet.
Mingus starts off with a bass solo
George Adams keeps on with a weird vocal performance. Let's say his voice is not the most harmonious in the jazz scene. But singing the devil's blues it's OK, he really sounds possessed...

What I really loved though is Don Pullen's solo at 5:10, after the trumpet.


after the frist 2 or 3 choruses he takes off like a rocket with his distinctive style. BigH should love that as well. Too bad the clip is interrupted in the middle of it and starts back in the 2nbd installment. Adams' sax solo in the 2nd part is also devilish.

I've been a fan of Pullen for a long time. It is sad, that he, too, passed away far too early. Would have loved to see a battle of the piano between Pullen and Hiromi!
