Hi,

Got an issue arrising on site here and looking for some conformation as this is the first project i have ever worked on using AWS i have to admit i am lost, it appears to be as clear as mud to me.

Anyway the question i would like anwsered is;-

If the compnay has a WPS for a full V joint prep are they able to utlizie that WPS for a half V whilst fabricating to AWS D1.1?

Cheers

The contractor can revise the WPS to include all prequalified joint details as per figures 3.3 and 3.4 (D1.1) if that is what they need to do in production.

"It depends."

One cannot arbitrarily use a CJP V groove qualification to weld PJP prequalified joint details, and there are further limitations on the use of it in T and corner joint connections.

Mr168,
I think the "half V" may be single bevel, rather than PJP.
However, as has been mentioned many times before using the proper terminology can help avoid confusion.

Rob,
As Al stated it is fine, however, you must revise the WPS,

DD

Per AWS D1.1, qualification on a CJP V-groove joint qualifies every CJP joint detail except Square groove and vice versa. If you doing PJP welding, you can use a CJP WPS provided you perform the mandatory macro-etch evaluations per section 4 to ensure the adequate weld size is being achieved.

Hope this helps,
