When I move a file from my desktop to a network drive solidworks can never locate the part and the only option is to find it myself. This normally woulnd't be a problem but I'm doing a large assembly and I need to move it all to the network. How would I do this so solidworks can find it without me locating each part for it?

thanks

Have you read faq731-376 to make the best use of these Forums?

If all the parts, assys and drawings are in the same folder, the folder should be movable without breaking references.

Having used a similar method int he past, wouldn't it make more sense to store the files on the network in the first place?

Hi, brunodg1:

You can move your files (parts, assemblies, and drawings) freely from one drive to another. Solidworks will be able to locate parts or sub-assemblies automatically if you setup file location for "Referenced documents" properly. You can setup this through Tool>Options...>File locations>Referenced documents>...

If you do this, Solidworks will find all the files for you without any help from you.

Good Luck!

Actually solidworks has told me to never use pack and go (in sw09 and under, not sure if its fixed) but for some strange reason some parts dont get renamed if you rename them.. to always use Find References>Copy Files to effectively pack and go without these issues.. since i started doing that i havnt had troubles with files not being properly renamed.
