Well.. I think he tried to say... Open the Drawing into Pro/ENGINEER... The open the Part that you need to rename... Do a "File" - "Rename" in Pro/E (both on disk and in session)... and save the drawing!...
If I am wrong here... someone be sure and correct me!... AND if this was all inside of Intralink... well... the Rules ALL change for the rename!!! All you need to do is rename in the Commonspace and then "Sync with Commonspace" in the Workspace... perhaps replacing in Pro/E if it is in session... (Pro/I is WAY easier for this)... ...yeah, but INTRALINK DO NOT RENAME the part. Is just changing an attribute assigned for the part number. Look under your \backup folder and you'll see.
Hora... What?... He didn't ask about changing an Attribute... He asked about changing the name of a part... (or so I think)... And in intralink you can easily change the name of a part...
Inside the commonspace... "Obect" - "Rename"...
if it was an Attribute (parameter)... you would need to do an "Object" - "modify" inside the Workspace... then choose the attribute (parameter) to be changed, and change it...
Of course if it happens to be a family tabled part you would now of course have to have ALL the Instances and the generic in the workspace... and make the change inside of a linked Pro/ENGINEER sesion... making sure to Verify all the instances of the generic before saving...
If there are intralink questions... I know it VERY well...
Now if it was just a Parameter inside of Pro/ENGINEER with no Intralink... well... my favorite way to fill them out is to add the column into the ModelTree for Params... and simply write the value into there... Daniel Pro/E Specialist
Belive me, I know what I say. Pro/INTRALINK DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME. Is just an illusion. Or an "attribute" of the ORACLE database. It's invisible to you, that's why you think you are really changing the name of the part. But you are not! If you want to see with your eyes, create a new part in your workspace, rename it with INTRALINK and then open the \backup folder and check the name of your part! ... As you can see, the part did'n change the name!
But... if it is in Intralink... you're not working from the Hard drive... and when you do export from Intralink to the Hard drive... you do get the new name... So really... it is a real name change...
You do realize that you're not supposed to work directly from the .proi directory pretty much for that reason?... (or rather one of the reason)... Daniel Pro/E Specialist
I beg to differ... I too work with Intralink and I know exactly what both of you are saying. Intralink does not rename the file on disk. The Oracle files keep track of the name.

If you create an object in your Workspace the same name is used for the file on disk. If you rename the object in your Workspace the file name on disk is the same as it was created.
If you check-in the object to Commonspace then the Commonspace browser will display the "new" name. The file in your Commonspace vault is neither of the names. The vault will use an auto assigned name and Oracle will do the rest.
If you check-out the object (copy - not linked) from Commonspace to a new Workspace the Workspace browser will display the "new" name. The file on disk will have the original file name.
Trust me - I just did it.
Just ignore the files on your hard drive if you have Intralink. It will make your life easier. Everytime I thought it would be O.K. to just do one little thing to those files very bad things happened. Often requiring intralink to reinstalled on that mahcine and allways losing files.
If you need to send someone a file just export it. One of the great things about Intralink is that is exports all the files that need to go with that file.
