Hi Everyone:

I have a copy of the 1956 ASME Section VIII Code. back then the maximum joint efficiency they allowed if you did X-Ray and stress relief was 95%. When did the Code Change and start allowing 100% efficiency?

Why does it matter what year the Code changed?

If it does, for some reason, then you might contact ASME ( and ask. Otherwise, how would you know whether the answer was correct if someone said "It changed in 1980?" (By the way, I don't believe there was a Section VIII Code revision in 1980.)

vpl,

I would think that it matters when repairing or altering vessels which may have been manufactured when the maximum joint efficiency was 0.95.

Also, there was a 1980 Edition to Section VIII (Div 1), but I do not know of the specific changes made.
