Change hot water heater connections to match water supply? 2

I am specifying a Bradford White D-75T-125. The water connections are 1-1/2", but our building supply is only 1-1/4".

What is the best (safest) way to reduce these connections? Just a simple reducing/drop adapter, or will I need a special pressure reducer?

Reducer on the pipe.

Why are you specifying equipment with a larger water pipe size than you have available pipe? Is your heater oversized?

PEDARRIN2, it is for a restaurant, and it is commercial grade oversized (no room for two smaller).

The civil plans were approved for 1-1/4" supply, so we don't want to change the size and resubmit.

Do you know if I can and how to reduce the connections?

Do not mess with the water heater connections. From the water heater connection, use a 1.5" dielectric coupling, transition to 1.25" pipe via pipe reducer, then connect to the 1.25" pipe.

It's not unusual for water heater sizes to be larger or smaller than the available (or designed) sizes. Reducing or increasing the piping at or near the heater shouldn't affect the operation of the heater in any way.
