Change coordinate system in Solidworks?

I was making a part in the part editor.

I goofed up and made the right side the front, the top the left, etc... as far as X,Y,Z is concerned.

Is there a way that I can change the coordiante system without starting from scratch.

I seem to be able to add a coordiante system, the I can't make it replace the origin's coordinate system.

I am having some compatibility issues with my CAM program because of this.

I think that that just changes the views, but thanks anyway.

I also considered changing the sketch planes, but that is also a lot of work.

I ended up exporting the part to an .igs file with the proper coordinate system. Then I made my drawings and the CM software is ok with it.

This was the easiest method that I could find.

What you need to do is set up a Coordinate Origin like I & Snowcrash listed above - You can setup a new type of origin by going to Insert\Reference Geometry\Coordinate System pick the vertex or your X, Y, Z and click OK to make a new coordinate Origin.

Then Export that file out as a Parasolid before you save the file click on Options and under origins click the down arrow and click on the Coordinate origin you just made. Then save it. Open the newly save Parasolid. There you should see you part pop back to the origin that you just created.

Another oprion:

If selecting geometry is difficult to do to define the new coordinate system (or it's difficult for whatever other reason):
-you can drop your part into an assembly
-mate it to the appropriate planes
-then do a SaveAs-Part
You will get a dumb part file similiar to what a parasolid would give you.
