What is the correct way to call out a 45 degree chamfer? Y14.5 clearly says a note 1 X 1 or 1 X 45° is allowed. Solidwork has a dimension style that is C1 for 45 degree chamfers. I have been using this style for many years with multiple companies and drafting programs and have never questioned it. But now a vendor is questioning the pratice and I can't find a standard that documents this as an acceptable practice. Does anyone know if this is an acceptable way to specify a chamfer?

Have you ever seen a 1X1 chamfer called out as C1 on a drawing?

jj11142,
The question is: what is the drawing standard that your print follows?
If this is ASME or ISO, I am not surprised that the vendor is questioning your "C1" practice (I assume the print does not contain a reference to any document that the vendor could look to and which would clarify him what exactly "C1" means).

Our drawings references Y14.5M-1994 and C1 is not a recognized designation for a chamfer. It is odd that Solidworks provides this designation as an option under all the standards. I'll stop using this designation.

Even NX have prefix C. But i never used that for chamfer

we use 1 x 45 for 45 degree angle for rest its 1x2 or direct diemnsioning.

I’ve never seen C used for chamfer as well.

SolidWorks appears to care more to satisfy its biggest customers rather than strict standard requirements (I am looking in your direction, Inspection Dimension!)

I have seen CHMAFER written on drwaing as prefix though, not sure whthere this is in standard or not.
