Hello-

I am interested in what is the difference between a "line", a "centerline in Solidworks.

It seems like a line set up as construction geometry could be used as a centerline.

When do you decide to use one or the other? Thanks for any tips.

I prefer construction lines, as they can be used to find slot centers and other bits of symmetry that centerlne entities do not. Also, centerlines can be re-associated if the model changes.
