Hi all,

I am new to FEA field.I prefer doing classical hand solution.

I extracted force and moment from Cbar/Cbeam element from post processor. But I do not know whether moment I got is creating tension or compression on the top fiber of the beam. plsease help me with this.

Hi davidnoc,

What software are you using? I am guessing on MSC Nastran, but the answer to your question depends mainly on the software you are using.

Any software should come with an help user guide of some sort. In there you should be able to find the answer to your question. If you are using MSC Nastran, you should look in the Quick Reference Guide and look for CBAR or CBEAM. There, you have a picture of the positive direction of Nastran Output.
