Catia V5R8 spaceball

I have problems getting a spaceball that I was given to work catia v5r8.
The spaceball is a serial HP A4361C type and catia is run on Win2000 Pro.
The spaceball works with the 3Dconnexion latest drivers and demos, I have the correct port reference CATDeviceBroker 6668/tcp in the file \WINNT\System32\Drivers\etc\services, spaceball is switched on in catia but nothing happens.
Any ideas.

Have you tried installing the latast service pack for V5R8?
